F.A.Q.'s

What IS iSpeek                                                                                     Glad you asked. iSpeek is a software audio codec designed to communicate between two Users with real-time, studio quality audio using the internet as a carrier.

How does iSpeek work?                                                                           Like a dream, at least that is what Users are writing us.  Using the LAME and TooLame encoders to provide MPEG 3 and MPEG 2 compression.  iSpeek is a Server Assisted - Session Initiated Protocol (SIP), Direct-Connect audio codec.  iSpeek is similar to VOIP using broadband internet to send high quality audio between remote locations in real-time.  The term used in our realm is HQIP (High Quality audio via Internet Protocols)

Can iSpeek connect with ISDN codecs which have IP capability? Unfortunately, no.  Many ISDN codec's have proprietary  connection protocols.  At present we have been unable to negotiate terms to share the connection abilities.

Will I need iSpeek on both ends of  a session?                               Like our predecessor - ISDN codec's, iSpeek will be required on each end of a session.  To create a link between each party, iSpeek needs to know if both parties are online and willing to contact each other.  Once a link is established between the two ends, a session is initiated and both ends have real time communication with each other.

Will iSpeek replace ISDN codecs?                                                         We don't believe it will "replace" ISDN codec's due to their current usage around the world.  Our thoughts are: if you have an ISDN codec currently - keep it and add iSpeek to your connection ability list to give you more opportunities to work with more studios and talent in the world.  If you do not own an ISDN codec, buy iSpeek and connect to places you have only dreamed of.

Will iSpeek cost as much as an ISDN codec?                                      Not nearly as much.  iSpeek will cost much less for the codec, either iSpeek or iSpeek Phoenix are expected to be priced at less than USD $300.00.   Service Fees are one - very low monthly fee, and there are no "per-minute charges" either.  With iSpeek you will get ISDN codec quality (or better), without the ISDN codec price.

Will iSpeek be able to be used on Mac or PC ?                                   The amazing thing about iSpeek is it can be used with PC.Mac, and even Linux based systems.  Since iSpeek is independent software it may also be used with almost any Digital Audio Workstation software.  A main requirement is the ability to monitor the "audio input" in your recording track - most often this ability is found in the "multi-track" area of the DAW.  Audio output should be User selectable as well.

Are there any special requirements for using iSpeek?                                                                                                          Windows requirements:                                                              Microsoft Windows XP, XP Pro (preferred)                                   DAW Software                                                                                    Duplex Sound Card                                                                     Broadband internet capable of a sustained 256k upload minimum, Static IP address (for best results)                                          Microphone, speakers or headphones                                           Audio Mixer if desired                                                                     webcam (if desired)
